Photo Album: Health Fair October 13, 2007

 The Hispanic Committee, Inc., is produ to announce the tremendous success of the recent health fair titled, "Música, Salud y Diversión: Aprendiendo Antes de Una Crisis" (Communicating Before a Crisis: Music, Health and Fun).

This event was sponsored by District 2 Public Health in collaboration with the Hispanic Committee.  The health fair was attended by more than 700 adults and children (estimated total) on Saturday, October 13, 2007, from 11:00 am to 2:00 pm in the large arena of the Georgia Mountains Center.

2008 Membership Drive Begins!

The Hispanic Committee has launched the 2008 Membership Drive and is now accepting applications from anyone interested in becoming a member of "Amigos del Comite Hispano."

Amigos del Comite Hispano is the official friendship society of the Hispanic Committee and serves as an important fundraising tool for the organization. 

By becoming a member of Amigos del Comité Hispano, you will receive several valuable benefits including a free subscription to our email newsletter; invitation to all of the special events we organize throughout the year and the option to purchase tickets to various special events at a discounted rate.

In addition, you can also enjoy the gratification of knowing you are supporting a worthwhile non-profit organization that serves your local community!  Your donation to general membership society of Amigos del Comité Hispano is truly appreciated and will be utilized to help fulfill the mission and purpose of this organization.

Corporate memberships are available with special marketing benefits including recognition in certain promotional materials (such as our web site).  Corporate dues are based on total number of employees. 

Individual memberships are also available.  For the 2008 calendar year, membership dues are $60 per individual - but  persons who register before October 15, 2007, are eligible for the "early bird special" discounted membership rate of just $50 - a savings of $10 on the annual membership rate.

Memberships are for one year only and should be renewed annually.

Hispanic Committee Elects New Officers

THURSDAY, AUGUST 16, 2007.  The Hispanic Committee of Gainesville/ Hall County recently conducted an election of new officers for the 2007/2008 year and announced several exciting plans for community educational programs, voter registration and support for local families.

Five Latinos to Participate in Leadership Program

ImageTHURSDAY, APRIL 26, 2007.  Today the board of directors of the Greater Hall Chamber of Commerce announced the names of the 36 distinguished Gainesville / Hall County residents who were nominated, and then finally selected, to participate in the prestigious "Leadership Hall" program as part of the upcoming 2008 graduating class.

Dia de los Reyes holiday gift tradition

ImageMembers of the Hispanic Committee recently celebrated el Dia de los Reyes with families in the Even Start Family Literacy Program, including a delivery of gifts for the children as part of this important annual tradition.

Throughout Latin America, families celebrate Dia de los Reyes on January 6 (or the Epiphany day) which commemorates the pilgrimmage taken by the three kings or "three wise men" to Bethlehem.  The kings brought gifts for the baby Jesus, and from this event several holiday traditions have emerged. In fact, the tradition of exchanging gifts on Christmas Day is actually rooted in the Epiphany tradition.
